TITLE: Support Worker – Waking Nights

HOURS: 37 per week

RESPONSIBLE TO: Care Services Manager

SALARY: £15,609 - £17,681 ( SCP 20-24)

BASED FROM: Coddington Court School

MAIN TASKS:

Contribute to every aspect of the smooth running of residential service providing support to young people with autistic spectrum disorder (ASD). Remain alert and on duty throughout the night to maintain regular checks on all young people within your charge. Provide practical and personal support to the young people promoting their rights to choice and independence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Provide care and support equivalent to that which might be provided by a competent and caring relative including appropriate degrees of help with washing, dressing, bathing and assistance with hygiene needs.
  2. Assist all support staff in the smooth running of the resource, undertaking regular maintenance and preparation tasks during the night.
  3. Contribute to the all round development of the young people through the provision of a healthy environment and range of activities and be a consistent and caring adult role model.
  4. Be flexible and adaptable in providing a sensitive caring approach allowing the young people to develop in all aspects of their life.
  5. Ensure that all information and records relating to the young people in your care are accurate and up to date.
  6. Be alert to the signs of distress or abuse and to ensure that all service users are monitored and protected at all times.
  7. Be sensitive to the needs of each individual, taking account of ethnicity, gender, language, culture and religion.
  8. Administer medication following the written guidelines set out in the drugs administration policy together with directions from the medical practitioners.
  9. Design, implement, monitor and evaluate individual care plans, reporting significant matters affecting an individual’s quality of life.
  10. Ensure that the general health and welfare of the young people including food, warmth, clothing, monies and other goods are available and advising the management team of specific requirements.
  11. Advise the management team of any supplementary services that may be needed.
  12. Liaise and communicate with other members of staff and external professionals appropriately to ensure a coordinated approach to programme planning is in place.
  13. Relate to professional agencies, family, friends etc with appropriate diplomacy and tact whilst ensuring that confidentiality is maintained.
  14. Contribute to the regular review procedures concerning the young people and prepare comprehensive written reports prior to the meeting taking place as necessary.
  15. Assist in establishing good relationships with parents and families, encouraging liaison and communication with every young person’s parents.
  16. Be aware and make full use of the resources and facilities on offer and ensure that equipment is maintained in good working order.
  17. Acquire and utilise information with regard to the needs of the young people, interpreting and communicating with them effectively and in their best interests.
  18. Attend and participate in mandatory, statutory and other relevant training courses as and when required.
  19. Ensure that Health & Safety regulations are met and that fire regulations, risk assessment and behaviour management procedures are adhered to at all times.
  20. Be aware of and make use of basic First Aid practices.
  21. Positively promote and raise the profile of people with autism and autism.west midlands.
  22. Participate in regular supervisions with Line Manager.
  23. Attend staff meetings and contribute as appropriate.
  24. To undertake such other duties as are required from time to time, including working unsocial and/or different hours and occasionally at different sites.
