Training Services...

We provide training for autism.west midlands staff and seek to offer a clear professional development programme for all staff once they have completed the organisational induction. Ensuring that front line staff have a good understanding about the nature of autistic spectrum disorder is central to our work.

Externally we operate a conference schedule throughout the year that covers a range of topics and in a variety of venues around the West Midlands. At times these are provided in partnership with other organisations. Recently we have held events with both BILD ( British Institute for Learning Disabilities) and Sunfield School in Clent, amongst others.

Requests for training come to our department from all over the region and from all sorts of organisations. Health Trusts, Social Service Departments, Play Groups, Schools, Nurseries, Connexions, Voluntary Organisations and Parents Support Groups. We cover a considerable amount of autism awareness work every week as well as more specialised training for example, in coping with challenging behaviour, communication support for children with an a.s.d, access to employment for people with Asperger Syndrome.

One of the most valuable aspects to our training is the fact that most of us have regular face to face experience with children/adults who have a.s.d. and often co-train with adults with a.s.d. as colleagues.
