autism. west midlands is setting up a ‘Transition’ service for young people leaving school or college and would like to offer the following brief summary of the service for your perusal. If you would like a young person, who must be over the age of 18, to be considered for placement, can you please contact Allan White at the above address – email contact preferred or by telephone for more information.
Wentworth Road : Supported Living Scheme: OUTLINE of Scheme
New Build property in Harbourne Birmingham.
For 4 Service Users with Autism: aged between 18 and 25 years: envisaged for those leaving schools or colleges.
Residency: This could be 2,3, 5 or more years depending on needs.
Move on opportunities: We will enable the young people to move on to other accommodation in the future either as part of autism. west midlands provision or another organisation, by agreement with the Service User and their family.
Supported Living but Domiciliary Care considered.
Ready for occupancy in February 2007
Fee level or equivalent: made up of benefits, ILF and local authority support hours: £1,650 (Includes development and staff recruitment/training costs).
Suitability: When considering Service Users we will need to take account of the mix of people and behaviours. ASD is not a barrier. The resource will not be suitable for those with major challenging behaviour or mobility difficulties.
Environment: There are 2 en-suite bedrooms and 2 bedrooms which share an adjoining bathroom suite: Lounge: Fully fitted kitchen: Dining Room: Garden: The property is within easy walking distance of a local College, Leisure Centre/Swimming Baths and local shops and is 2 miles from the city centre easily accessible by public transport. The overall aim is to provide a safe and supportive environment, enabling each individual to achieve his or her full potential in everyday living. This will be implemented via experienced support staff that have an understanding Autism and of the emotional, physical, social and intellectual ability of each individual.
Continuing Education: autism.west midlands works in partnership with other organisations to provide training and recreational facilities for adolescents and adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorder ( ASD ). There may be opportunities to attend Queen Alexandra College on a full or part time basis.
