TRAINING FOR FAMILIES

autism west midlands offers tailor made training programmes for families throughout the West Midlands . These include:

Rising to the challenge:

15 hours training programme - 3 hour sessions over 5 week period. Topics include:

  • Understanding your child’s ASD
  • Promoting play and social skills
  • Developing communication skills
  • Understanding and managing behaviour and sensory issues
  • Growing up – issues around adolescence and ASD

 

Each of the above sessions can also be delivered separately if required.

Practical Interventions in the management of challenging behaviour:

18 hours training programme – 3 hour sessions over 6 week period. These are usually in the evenings or as a daytime course and most successful where both parents can attend, or one parent and another significant adult in the life of the child/ young person. The following topics are covered in the sessions:

  • An introduction to ASD
  • Causes of challenging behaviour
  • Low arousal techniques
  • Some practical physical interventions to keep yourself and the individual with ASD safe.
  • The importance of debriefing and understanding our own tolerance levels

There is also an opportunity to hear someone with ASD talk about their life and time for participants to focus on the particular needs of their child.

We can also provide one day courses on a number of other is sue s such as sexuality and relationships issues for people with ASD and general ASD awareness.

All courses are delivered by skilled trainers with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the is sue s families face.
