In this section you can find out how to get involved with Autism West Midlands, including fundraising activities, volunteering opportunities, membership and events.


As a charity, we rely on your kind donations to continue our work. There are lots of ways you can give. We are members of the Fundraising Standards Board - meaning you can give with confidence.

Regular donation

It's often much easier to find £5 a month than £60 a year. A small, regular donation is better for us too because it helps us plan ahead.

£2 a month could provide one-to-one support to 2 or more families in a crisis each year.

£5 a month could pay for 60 parents to access a support group each year

£10 a month could pay for 120 hours of helpline support each year.

Direct Debit donations also help us save on administration costs – so that more of your gift can be spent helping people affected by autism.

The easiest way to set up a regular gift is via our secure online donation form.

In memory

Giving in memory is a wonderful way to remember a friend or loved one. No matter what the value of your gift is, it will help us to carry on our important work with people with autism. We are especially grateful to be remembered at such a difficult time and personally acknowledge all gifts.

Here are some of the ways you can give in memory of a loved one:
A single donation in memory

If you would like to make an online donation in memory of a friend or loved one, you can donate online and send the link on to any family or friends who might also wish to donate.

Funeral collection/in lieu of flowers

Hold a funeral collection or ask family and friends to donation in lieu of flowers. We can provide you with donation envelopes that you can place on seats, leave on a table or put in the order of service. Collection envelopes can be collected from you on the day or sent on to us at a later date.

Alternatively, collections are often organised through the funeral director, please ensure they pass on the names and addresses of those who wish to be acknowledged for their gift.

Set up a tribute fund online

You can also set up a personalised fundraising page in memory of your loved one. Friends and relatives can then donate conveniently online and have the opportunity to leave a message of remembrance if they wish.

Why not leave your tribute page open. Often families and friends decide to organise events in memory of a loved one, donate on anniversaries and special occasions. Tell us your plans and we will help support you with your tribute fund.

Keeping track of donations

We keep track of all donations and so if we receive several donations in memory of one person, we can tell you how has been donated in their memory, in total.

Through a trust

We receive a large part of our fundraising income from charitable trusts and foundations. These grants vary in size and can either be a one-off donation or part of committed support over several years. Sometimes a trust will fund a project in its entirety, but more often they will donate part of the costs of a project. In the past, our Helpline, Information team and CJS development work have all attracted trust support.

In addition to Charitable Trusts, we also receive grants from the Big Lottery, and Department of Health. Funding of this type is usually given to further particular projects, such as our carers' roadshow, which visited towns and cities across the West Midlands region last year.

As we expand and pioneer more new initiatives, the support of charitable trusts becomes even more crucial to helping us to achieve our aims.

Other ways to give

A new, secure and simple way to support us with your clothes donations

We've partnered up with a great new organisation called Clothes For Charity to make it simpler and much more secure for you to donate your unwanted clothes and help us fund some wonderful projects.

This is how it works

At www.clothesforcharity.org.uk, you can choose to donate to us or request a secure and trackable donation bag and Clothes For Charity will pick it up from wherever's convenient for you. They'll even send you an email telling you it got there safely.

Best of all, while most charity clothing collection schemes will only hand over £70 per tonne to the charity, they give us £200 per tonne, meaning we can do even more great work thanks to your donation.

You can visit their website and see just how simple and secure it is to donate.

So please donate through Clothes For Charity and ask your friends to do them same. The more clothes donated on our behalf, the more great work we can do!


An easy way to raise funds

Do you shop online? Did you know that every time you buy something you could be raising money for Autism West Midlands?

That's right, over 2,700 well known retailers, including Amazon, John Lewis, eBay and Tesco will donate a small percentage of what you spend to Autism West Midlands to say thank you for shopping with them.

FRSB: Give with confidence

We are members of the Fundraising Standards Board (FRSB) self-regulatory scheme. The FRSB works to ensure that organisations raising money for charity from the public do so honestly and properly.

As members of the scheme, we follow the Institute of Fundraising's Codes of Fundraising Practice and comply with the key principles embodied in the Codes and in this Promise:

We do all we can to ensure that fundraisers, volunteers and fundraising contractors working with us to raise funds comply with the Codes and with this Promise.

We comply with the law including those that apply to data protection, health and safety and the environment.

We are honest and open

We tell the truth and do not exaggerate.

We do what we say we are going to do.

We answer all reasonable questions about our fundraising activities and costs. Please contact us, visit our website or see our Annual Report if you require further details.

We are clear

We are clear about who we are, what we do and how your gift is used.

Where we have a promotional agreement with a commercial company, we make clear how much of the purchase price we receive.

We give a clear explanation of how you can make a gift and amend a regular commitment.

We are respectful

We respect the rights, dignities and privacy of our supporters and beneficiaries.

We will not put undue pressure on you to make a gift and if you do not want to give or wish to cease giving, we will respect your decision.

If you tell us that you don't want us to contact you in a particular way we will not do so.

We are fair and reasonable

We take care not to use any images or words that cause unjustifiable distress or offence.

We take care not to cause unreasonable nuisance or disruption.

We are accountable

If you are unhappy with anything we've done whilst fundraising, you can contact us to make a complaint.

We have a complaints procedure, a copy of which is available on request. If we cannot resolve your complaint, we accept the authority of the FRSB to make a final adjudication.

Complaints procedure

If you are unhappy with any aspect of our work, we would like to hear about it. We value all feedback, both good and bad, and welcome the opportunity to learn and improve.

How to make a complaint

Complaints should be raised within three months of the matter in question. You should direct your complaint to:

How we will respond

We will treat your complaint seriously.

We will endeavour to address your complaint within two working days.

If we need to make further investigations, we will confirm that we have received your complaint and seek to resolve it within 20 working days.

What happens next

If your complaint has not been resolved satisfactorily, a review will be conducted internally and your complaint may be escalated within the organisation to help find a solution which is acceptable to you.

If your complaint related to a fundraising matter, and we cannot resolve it to your satisfaction, you (or we) may ask the Fundraising Standards Board to adjudicate.

Autism West Midlands is a member of the Fundraising Standards Board and agrees to work within the Fundraising Standards Board's Codes of Fundraising Practice and the Fundraising Standards Board's Fundraising Promise. We accept the authority of the Fundraising Standards Board to make a final adjudication.
