Rising to the Challenge – Workshops in Solihull for SOLAR Parents and Carers

“Best parent training and support programme” Social Care Award 2017

This course is part of the Solar Emotional Health and Well Being Service so places are only available to family carers living in Solihull.

About the course (scroll down for full details):

Families attending this course will gain greater confidence in living with autism and feel better equipped to manage the difficulties they are experiencing. All participants will have the opportunity to share their experiences and take away ideas, strategies and resources as well as information about Autism West Midlands’ Information and Support services and other local sources of help.

All sessions take place at:

Junction’, 100 Chapelhouse Road, Fordbridge, Solihull, B37 5HA

Dates: Wednesdays: 12th February, 26th February, 4t March, 11th March, 18th March, 25th March

• The individuality of children on the spectrum

• How autism is diagnosed

 

26th February (10:30am – 1:00pm)

How autistic children experience their senses

• Sensory Processing

• How children with autism experience their senses

• Improving sensory experiences for you child

 

4th March (10:30am – 1:00pm)

Exploring Communication

• The developing communicator

• How your autistic child communicates

• Communication ideas for your child

 

11th March (10:30am – 1:00pm)

Helping your Child Develop Social Skills

• How children develop social skills

• Social skill difficulties in autism

• Promoting social skills with your child

 

18th March (10:30am – 1:00pm)

Understanding and minimising difficult behaviours

• The role of anxiety in a child with autism

• Coping strategies for dealing with autism related anxiety and anger outbursts

• Strategies to help your child regulate their emotions

 

25th March (10:30am – 1:00pm)

Happiness and Wellbeing

• Practical strategies to promote self esteem and wellbeing for your child

• Reflection time
