Autism Confident Course

We offer a free 8 week programme which aims to help you understand more about your autism, improve your confidence and provides you with the opportunity to meet other people on the spectrum. It also offers opportunities to develop your social skills in a supported group setting.

This programme involves small group workshops, one to one support and supported social groups.

Core sessions for the group include:

  • What is Autism
  • Social Communication
  • Theory of Mind
  • Sensory Differences
  • Anxiety Management
  • Disclosure


To take part you must be:

  • Aged 18 or over
  • Registered to a GP in Birmingham
  • Diagnosed or seeking a diagnosis of autism
  • Able to manage in small group settings with minimal support
  • Able to commit to an 8 week programme

Whether you attend the BASIS IAG service or the Autism Confident Course, you will also be able to access specific workshops on a range of issues.  These will be delivered ad-hoc dependent on adequate interest, but can include:

  • General Autism Awareness
  • Parent/carer workshop
  • Managing personal relationships
  • Employment – how to find work
  • Managing mental health/wellbeing
  • Volunteering
  • Social opportunities
  • How to talk to other people about your autism
  • Developing communication passports
