Meet the Team

Gorse Farm

Melissa has been with Autism West Midlands for over 4 years, she first started as an Activity Co-ordinator and is now the Assistant Manager at Gorse Farm.

We asked Melissa a few questions about her role and her career journey.

What made you choose a career within the care sector? Can you describe your career journey?

I have always put others before myself so when my family spoke to me about the care sector I decided to give it a go and began working within domiciliary care, I then started working within a residential home. I also supported my great grandad when he was very ill.

How long have you been in your current role and what have you done so far?

I have been in my current role for eight months and have already learnt a lot of new skills this has really helped me grow in confidence.

Can you briefly describe a typical day at Gorse Farm?

Each day is different and there is always something new to learn! There’s a really positive culture and as a team we celebrate our successes.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is supporting those who live at Gorse Farm to live happy and fulfilling lives. I really enjoy helping the staff who work here achieve new things.

What nugget of wisdom have you learnt since working at Autism West Midlands?

Everyone with autism is different!

What is the working environment like at Gorse Farm?

We are currently on a positive journey at Gorse Farm supporting each other every step of the way.

What are your future goals and aspirations?

I would really like to complete my level 5 and continue to learn, I would eventually like to be a Registered Care Manager.
