As part of Trustee Week, we’re shining a light on the people who help guide and strengthen Autism West Midlands. This week, we’re featuring our Chair of the Board, Paul Glasper.
Paul brings extensive leadership and Board experience to his role and is passionate about creating a more inclusive society where neurodiverse people are understood and supported. In his interview, Paul shares what motivates him as a trustee, what he enjoys most about his role and what makes him proud to be part of AWM.
What is your role within Autism West Midlands? What does this involve?
I have the privilege of being Board Chairman. The role involves, with the help of a very experienced Board, overseeing the charity’s activities, governance, and strategy to ensure it fulfils its mission effectively and responsibly.
What experience do you have to bring to the AWM Board?
I have over 20 years of leadership, business and management experience in the financial services industry, leading complex and diverse businesses. I also have experience on various Boards which I hope is of benefit to the charity.
What made you apply to be a trustee of the charity?
I am passionate about creating a more inclusive society where neurodiverse people are really understood and supported. I’ve seen how awareness and the right support can transform someone’s life, and I want to help ensure that kind of impact reaches more people and their families.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
What I enjoy most about being chairman is contributing towards a shared goal and seeing the positive change that results. I find it very rewarding to support the board in making thoughtful, strategic decisions and to see how those translate into real impact for the people our charity supports. The collaboration, the sense of purpose, and the opportunity to make a tangible difference are what make the role so fulfilling.
What are you most proud of about AWM?
Seeing the passion and dedication throughout the charity, and how that makes such a huge difference to peoples’ lives. A huge thank you to everyone at Autism West Midlands for their hard work and dedication.
