Stuart

Stuart contacted Autism West Midlands via our helpline.

Stuart is 39 years old and lives on his own since his mother died several years ago.

Since then Stuart had become very isolated and reports that he only goes out to fetch shopping and attend appointments with his GP. Stuart explained that although he generally likes to spend time alone, he does want to make some friends and share with someone his interest in football.

Stuart was contacted by a member of our Community Adult Team, and he was presented with some options which included one-to-one support sessions and group support. Stuart explained that he felt very nervous about meeting new people and attending new places.

We reassured Stuart and gave him lots of details around what to expect from our support and how to get to our offices. Stuart agreed to attend a group session and was supported to ensure he felt welcomed and able to participate as much or as little as he wished.

Stuart has been attending our group for 12 months now. Stuart said;

“I now look forward to meeting the group each month. I feel more confident in myself as I can chat about things that are going on around me”.
