It has provided residential and day support for 19 adults with a diagnosis of autism since 1989 when it was opened by Princess Anne.
It was the first of the care homes opened by Autism West Midlands and the first of its kind in Birmingham.
The home is our largest service and has a specialist resource centre where residents enjoy participating in drama sessions, singing lessons and sensory activities. The residents regularly enjoy day trips, annual holidays and families are encouraged into the service to spend quality time with the people that live there.
Oakfield House has a large outdoor garden area and has an array of outdoor spaces where residents can enjoy outdoor activities. Residents regularly participate in gardening and planting various fruit and vegetables in the greenhouse. There is also a shepherds hut where residents can go for some quiet reflective time or to sit and enjoy the surroundings. There are various gazebos and seating areas and a large trampoline. Each year, Oakfield House host a large summer fete which is attended and enjoyed by staff and residents from across the charity.
More recently, Oakfield have welcomed their first pet Rabbit to the home which has proved a much loved addition to the home.
