Autism West Midlands have been funded by Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Collaborative to mobilise a Key Worker Service which aims to help autistic adults avoid hospital admission. The Service will also facilitate and support earlier discharge from hospitals.
The Key Worker role will be to place additional focus on the autism related needs of adults within the mental health system. Key Workers will advocate on behalf of people and put forward their autistic needs and preferences. The service will enhance the coordination of care and support to help people to exit hospital and to help them to seek the right services and support to be able to live successfully in the community.
Henry Webster (Operations Manager for Autism West Midlands) said:
“We are really excited to be offered the opportunity to help autistic adults to feel that they are better understood and to work with them and NHS colleagues to get the best possible outcomes for them. We feel that we can help focus an autism lens on a persons care and support so that their needs are best met, and this will help people avoid being in hospital. We have an experienced team who are equally excited to start making a real difference”.
Celebrating the launch of our new Keyworker Service!
